Cooking with beer is something more people are experimenting with at home. TV Chefs are using craft beer in recipes and restaurants are incorporating beer into their menus. Seeing beer used in innovated ways by chefs and restaurants gives home cooks confidence to make beer an ingredient in their kitchen.
Flat 12 Bierwerks' line up of beers lends itself particularly well to cooking. Their milk stout and vanilla ice cream can be used to create an indulgent adults-only milkshake. Use their amber ale with roasting chicken and vegetables. Pogue's Run Porter, the signature beer from Flat 12 is extremely versatile in recipes. Our recipe for pulled pork uses Flat 12's porter to add flavor to a pork shoulder while it cooks all day in a slow cooker. The beer tenderizes the meat and keeps it moist as it cooks. Use this pulled pork for sandwiches, on nachos or as a topping for pizza.
Pogue's Run Porter Pulled Pork
5-7 lbs pork shoulder, fat trimmed
1 growler of Pogues Run Porter
Salt and Pepper
Salt and pepper the pork shoulder on all sides and place in the slow cooker. Pour enough beer into the slow cooker to cover the pork. Set the slow cooker to low for 8-10 hours. Once cooked, remove the pork from the slow cooker and shred the meat for use in sandwiches and more.
Flat 12 will be returning to Fishers On Tap February 23rd with their line up of beers. To buy tickets and learn more, click here.
